Our Approach

How Nexus Virtual Education is structured to meet the needs of our students.

Nexus Virtual Education was designed specifically for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Therefore, we take a personalized approach to ensure we are meeting every student’s needs, carefully analyzing each component of Nexus to create a high-impact virtual learning experience for our students.

Instruction

Nexus Virtual Education provides intensive teacher support for each student, with small class sizes of 10 students or less.

All students are taught by a state licensed special education teacher and instruction is provided through a blend of synchronous and asynchronous instruction. This allows for flexibility in the student’s schedule and for teachers to provide instruction when the student is the most available to learn.

Technology

Nexus equips every student with the tools they need to succeed. Students have a choice between an iPad with a keyboard and Apple Pencil or a Chromebook, depending on their needs and device experience. Internet access is also provided for students who do not currently have Wi-fi access.

Our learning management system, Blackboard, provides an easy-to-navigate experience that both students and parents appreciate. Nexus also offers a technology orientation at the time of enrollment to ensure that both students and caregivers understand how to use the device and each site. We also provide ongoing support through our Technology Help Desk.

Social Emotional Learning

Nexus Virtual Education has a social-emotional learning focus. This is based on the student’s needs and includes weekly lessons, positive behavior supports, visual supports, and family support.

Additionally, our teachers have been trained in verbal de-escalation and are equipped with the tools to help students who may begin to feel agitated or overwhelmed during synchronous learning.

Curriculum

Nexus has a catalog of courses that students can take. We utilize a standards-based curriculum while taking into consideration the student’s current academic achievement levels and IEP goals to provide specially designed instruction for each student. Our teachers also have access to numerous online resources that aid in providing engaging content and instruction to students.

Related Services

Nexus has the ability to provide teletherapy for speech, occupational therapy, and counseling.
